Rex Eugene Hunt
July 11, 1935 – August 17, 2024
Rex Eugene Hunt, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 17, 2024, at the age of 89. Born in Plessent Hills, LA, Rex was raised by his step dad Jesse Wycoff and Ruth Rembert Hunt-Wycoff.
On September 1, 1956, Rex married Sheryl B. Hunt in Torrance, CA. The couple first settled in Pomona, where Rex worked as a county surveyor for 11 years. They then relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah for a time, before moving to San Luis Obispo, CA, in 1974. There, Rex transitioned into the business world, becoming the owner of a fire suppression company. In 1992 they moved to
Hanford, where Rex started a new fire suppression company, operating it until his retirement.
Rex was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge of Hanford, where he attained the highest degree of Grand Master and served as Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years, receiving numerous awards of distinction. He is most notably remembered for his tireless dedication to running the town’s carousel every Thursday night during the summer heat, offering this joyful experience to the community free of charge.
Rex had a love for public speaking and writing poetry. He was quick to make life-long friends and was known for his ability to always have a story or a joke ready for any occasion, bringing laughter and warmth to those around him.
He is survived by his three children: Kenneth Ray Hunt, Cheryl “Deann” Saar, and Paul Eric Hunt. Rex also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Autumn, Faryl, Kevin, Mai-Lynn, Christopher, and Ryan.
Rex will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his significant contributions to his profession and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
